Question Multiple Symptoms, One Solution?

Ever since I got my jeep about a year and a half ago it would jerk and make a clunking noise when I put it in gear (by the way its an auto). I still have this problem but now if I am going down the road and let off of the gas pedal it makes a clunking sound. I also have some vibration that gradualy gets worse as I gain speed, but I don't really notice it until about 60mph. I have a suspicion about what is causing my problems but wanted some input.

it could be your rear diff making the noise, or it could be something wrong with your tranny, or like the other guy said could be your mounts, is it a winding sound when you slow down or is it a huming sound or both and where do you think the sound is coming from front, middle, or the rear of the vehicle

I have not checked anything yet I wanted to get some input on possible problems first. As for the noise when I let off the gas, it just sounds like a clunk towards the rear end. The vibration I feel is in the steering wheel if that helps narrow it down. My initial thought was that it’s probably my u-joints making the clunking noises and making it jerk when I put it in gear. I did not know if this was something that could also be causing the vibration. I am hoping that they are all related so I just have one thing to fix, money is tight when you’re in college. But you know what they say, "If it isn't one thing, it's two.” Thanks for the help guys.
