Default Muffler work needed?

Hi I'm new here, well not really because I come here and check out the forums and look at builds a lot, but of course I was always to lazy to sign up. Anyways I have a 1992 XJ and recently my exhaust pipe rotted away right after my muffler, it fell off so i loosened the U bolt and took it off completely. Now i realized that the only thing holding my muffler up is a little hook and it's slipping off and hitting my drive line. Any ideas??? sorry I'm only 17 and nobody in my family has any clues about cars. Thanks guys!

Luke, welcome, good to have you here.

Exhaust work is one area that I personally leave to the pros, too hard to get a good seal.

That being said, I bought some wire with clear plastic coating at the hardware store. The plastic coating merely slows down the rust process on the wire. It has done wonders for keeping various things in place on my jeeps.

Not a permanant fix, but if you are careful, look at where and how things have to move under there, you might be able to add a loop of wire in the right place to keep this from slipping for the time being.

If you have a welder or know someone who does just pop a bead where the exhaust meets the hanger.

to hang it - no

But to seal up the pipe so the exhaust does leak into the cabin I would weld rather than clamp.
