i run the cheapest 13" muffler the store has.

they do not last very long. they generally pull apart at the seams.

i weld up the entire underside myself, each seam, and stitch weld the seams on top and it gives them a little more life.

Yeah idk im not happy with this one spunds pretty stock maybe a new tail pipe will help

Quick question should i put the extention before or after the muffler. i heard that you want to put the muffler as far back as possible is this true?

Where are you located? If there are no vehicle inspections in your state, check this idea out:

I'm in south central CO where there is no vehicle inspections, unless they still do emissions tests along the front range of the Rockies.

I'm running a CherryBomb Turbo Muffler on AutoZone replacement exhaust pipe and tailpipe, no cat (replaced with tubing). The AZ tailpipe is 2 1/4", the same as the downpipe, and that reduces restriction a little more.

But how does it sound? Well, some of the local ricer drivers with huge fart cans on their cars are jealous, but it's not loud in the XJ at all. At 70 mph in 4th or 5th, you can have a normal conversation.

As for position, a rearward mounting might give a tiny bit more low RPM torque (you've still got a couple sharp turns, flattened areas for clearance, etc.), but it's not gonna help much.
