Thanks for the offer Wiggles, Im just getting some ideas on ways to approach this. I have an 84-86 xj skid that Im going to see if I can mod it to fit. One side to the unibody, the other to the crossmember. Im thinking about fishing a bolt and washer down a larger hole with a piece of wire until it drops into the correct hole, kind of like how I mounted my gas tank skid. Fished the bolt w/ washer down the unibody frame until it dropped through the appropriate hole. I have my little HF welder that Im eager to use if that plan doesnt work.

If the bolt goes up into the unibody its less likely to get hung up and snapped

This is a good point, Il see if I can put a bend in it to wrap it around the unibody then drill a hole for a self tapper. How would you weld a nut in there?

Nut welded to washer then open hole up enough for nut to fit in then weld washer to unibody
What i did for my leaf spring bolt and its holding up great

Now that,....was a really good idea. Il see if my "fishin the bolt down the frame rail" method works, if not welding in a nut would realistically work. Thanks for the tip Mr. Welder.

I used shoulder nuts. Drill the hole out just large enough for the hex side of the nut to fit. Push nut in from the outside and weld around the shoulder. Grind weld and nut shoulder almost flush with sub frame. I left about 1/16" and it looks like a large nut- sert. Did this for cross member and skid plate and has held up for 4 years.

I still have yet to mount the skid, I haven't gotten the chance to yet. A friend of mine has a special way he did his and it worked just fine. I gotta get the hardware and instructions from him. I don't really have access to a welder often, so I'm resorting to nuts and studs and other things like that.
