Default motor to tranny install tips?

Im having big problems lineing up the motor im trying to install in my 96 xj, the motor is out of my 92, everything going ok till i try to line up the 2 cutouts on the end of the torque converter. the motor will go on and line up on the shaft til the last half inch. Ive only got 2 weeks to go or these 2 xjs go to scrap. I had good times in the 92, crashed out, bought a 96 in hopes of this working. Please help

Do you have the torque converter bolted to the flex plate?? The torque converter should be installed in the transmission first. Then after you mount bell housing to the motor you bolt torque converter to flex plate.

Make sure the converter is ALL THE WAY IN ON THE TRANS--you will be pushing/turning/rocking it slightly up and down until you feel the converter slip ALL the way into the trans. Maybe 2-3 hitch points before the converter is all the way seated.
