Motor Swap
Bought an 89 XJ with a bad 2.5 and a 5 speed. Want to install a rebuilt 4.0. Need to know what year 4.0's will work and what bell housing I need to mate with the tranny. Thanks.

I understand your thinking on this, but the 4.0 and 2.5 use different 5 speed transmissions. You currently have an AX5 and you will need an AX15 tranny up to 91. It will bolt to your current transfer case and then you can bolt your engine in. Make sure you get the proper ECM computer module for whatever engine you get
