Default Motor Swap

I'm looking into doing a motor swap in my 1999 cherokee 4.0 automatic. I want to buy an entire Jeep and part it out so that I'm spending less money in the long run. I could buy an engine for $400 or an entire jeep for $800-1000.

My question is what year cherokee motor can I swap into my 99 with little to no modifications? I have found a 1997 that has rust issues that I can get rather cheap. I plan to reuse my motor accessories because they are rather new (starter, alt, 784 injectors.

If I buy a 97 or 98 motor, what has to be done to swap it into my 99? Google hasn't helped me too much in my search.

I believe a 97-99 will be a drop in replacement.

You're in good shape there. Go for it.

99 is the only year that will bolt up with no additional work. 91-98 will also bolt up, but you will have to swap some or all of your intake manifold, injectors, ignition parts, and other accessories, depending on how far away you get from the 99

I think he planned on that since he has new injectors etc.

Still very easy to do.

Not a bad idea buying the whole Jeep, look for an auto that way you have an extra. Plus other extras like axles, diffs, transfer case, etc.

Only advantage to a 99 only are some things are specific to that year only but for the most part a 97-99 will work if you swap out some of the old parts off of your old engine.

Exactly. I have no problem swapping accessories, the intake, ect. I just don't want to have to modify anything or cut & splice wiring together.

I don't have anywhere to store that stuff. I want to buy a whole jeep because I will either make money on the part out or I will basically get the motor for free.
