Red face Missing parts?

Hey guys im new to the forum. But i recently replaced my "dummy light" gauges with regular gauges on my 92 cherokee inline 6. I swaped out the oil pressure sensor with no problem. The coolent temp sensor on the other hand is apparently is not where it should be the plug is there but no sensor.
I bought a new sensor but it does not fit and there no thread... So if someone could help as to what i should do next it would be a big help thank you!

sensor must have gotten broke off. While you're in there, fix that ground strap on the head bolt. Clean and tight is right.

Hole should already be threaded. I would be hesitant to drill because then there'll be pieces floating around in there. Clean area, soak it with PB Blaster or such, try to "walk" it out with small cold chisle.

You might be able to get it out with a bolt extractor. Soak it with PB Blaster first.

Or you can change the t-stat housing to a newer year. They have the temp sensor in there

The early models have a temp sensor in the t-stat also. It only goes to the computer though.

Pick up a set of Reverse Drill Bits. Seriously. My cheap set from HF has saved my bacon MANY times. 90% of the time the busted bolt/sensor will come out when you start gently drilling.

Well worth it.

I'd also run that engine-bay to the nearest manual car wash and give it a quick spray. Maybe a bottle of Simple Green to spritz around then spray off. Makes working on them MUCH more fun.
