Hi,
Car has been missing a little bit, and noticed I had a code 17, and 43 when looking on my dash. So I drove to Autozone and had them hook up the OBD scanner and they said I have a misfire on cylinder 6. The car is '97 cherokee sport, and has new plugs, cap/rotor, wires. Maybe the coil??

If its a misfire on that cylinder you probably have a bad plug or wire try putting your old one back in or buy another one, what plugs you get? The best for the 4.0s are champion copper factory style plugs
Coil won't discriminate against just one cylinder. Agreed with the previous poster, check everything related to that cylinder. Plug, wire, cap. New parts aren't always properly working parts. Best to keep the old stuff on hand until the new parts prove themselves.

Always best to get the full PXXXX code for the OBDII vehicles, of which your 97 falls into. The two digit codes can be a little helpful, but the full code will do a better job of helping you isolate.
A cylinder 6 misfire is P0306. Is that your code? For single cylinder misfires, I always proceed with verifying these items (in this order)
1. Spark plug (plain Champion copper plugs are the best choice for your 97. Stay away from Bosch, E3, etc.) Be SURE gap is .035!
2. Spark plug wire
3. Distributor cap
4. Fuel injector
5. Internal condition of something on that cylinder (start with a compression test).
Good luck and keep us posted!
