Unhappy Misfire & codes P0202 and P0203

Hi guys

My Jeep has started misfiring really badly, it struggles to idle at all. If I push the gas a bit it does run a little better but when the revs return to idle again it barely runs.

I have got the codes which are P0202 and P0203.

I know what these codes mean, but there is a really strong smell of gas - is it possible I have two injectors gone bad at once, or is it more likely that the ECU is fried leaving the injectors open?

Thanks!

Since you also have a `97, strongly suggest you inspect the injector harness before anything else.

Here's my original photo and you can make out the fuel rail mushed into the wire harness:

This closeup makes it very clear:

Simply moving the wire harness from this pinched location eliminated my high speed misfire.

Since tying the harness up away from the engine, my XJ has run perfect for several years.

Just a quick update for anyone that may hit this thread with similar issues.... my Jeep is now fixed!

It turns out there were two issues. The first being the new TPS (which was only a few months old) which was said to give off 'dirty' electrical signals which were not quite within the tolerated ranges. The second was caused by corroded injector connectors.

As soon as they were cleaned and the TPS replaced again, all issues were resolved. The Jeep's AW4 was also downshifting by itself when going over 50mph and then the TCC would lock again. This has also stopped. My Jeep is back to normal!
