Maybe that will help 831. Haven't heard if he fixed his yet. My jeep is a 98 and doesn't fall into that bulletin. But there is a bulletin for the weak valve springs in the 1998 Cherokees.

The link you sent is the 99-2001 Cherokee. When they switched them up a bit. The one I read was a defected valve spring that they had in production and switched out in 98. Was because of weak valve springs. But that is weird how all of these cause such a big problem.

How difficult is it to replace the valve/valve spring with the head on the bench? Any special tools? Can the valve/valve springs be purchased individually from the dealer?

Easy with a valve spring compressor.

And I believe the dealer sells the springs individually.

No need to pull the head actually.

The TSB that applies to my '98 says to replace all 12 springs. I only replaced the 2 springs on the affected cylinder.
