dont take this the wrong way but i HATE you. lol

i am getting about 300 miles a tank when light turns on with 80%highway 20% local. Bone stock.

What bugs me out is that sometimes i can only fill up with 14 gallons and other times 17 gallons.... never know what i have left when light comes on....

I just did a whole new exhaust system and will be installing a budget boost lift, and 31s..... i am curious what i will drop too...

I dont know how to answer that - but to add to the mystery :

I also have about 500lbs of gear in the back
skid plates
bigger rims
bigger hitch (class V - that thing is crazy heavy to install by yourself)
and
she is a 87 with 88xxx miles on it

at this point alot of people say i must baby it..
while i do not drive with a heavy foot on a regular occasion, i do drive at a steady 70mph most days on a 50 miles 1 way trip 6 days a week. and on top of that, i also do rescue & recovery in this vehicle with the fire dept. so my pov occasionally lights up and i go faster..

I will say one time i did go 8000 miles before my oil change, really busy week of fires and rescues and regular work, and my mpg dropped to less than 16. but after the oil change and some fresh gas with a little cleaner. back to 18.5 and holding steady...

i get 300+ city/hwy mix
18.5mpg
3" lift
31x10.5
3.07 gears
and have exhaust leak in #6 pipe

as far as oil changes go - i do one every 5000 miles +/-

but im hoping that when i get the exhaust leak fixed and new 703 injectors and better (4.10) gears to bring that number up to about 19-20+/- mpg and then I will be really freaking happy

99 Stock, 20 gallon tank @ 15 miles per gallon, getting 300 per tank.
I just took a trip that was 150 miles each way with one fill up at an average speed of 75. No hills here in Florida, makes a difference. You can motor along in any car and do OK. It's the jack rabbit starts that will kill your milage.
Also, it is bad to run it low on gas and picking up any crap that may be sitting on the bottom of your tank.

The most accurate way to track gas mileage is when you fuel up.

Miles drive divided by gallons consumed.

I do this every time I fill up and it takes me all of 30 seconds. Keep a small pad in the glovebox to track it. If mileage falls off, you know you need to start looking to find the root cause.

Get at least THREE gas mileage samples before coming to any conclusions.

Well I just had a very uncomfortable drive home. And I can tell you the needle will definitely go below the empty line, but you'll be lucky to squeeze out 10 miles when you hit it. It was pretty nerve racking, and It almost looked like the little gas light lit up a little more too.

I have pushed it to 320 or 330 on the highway. That was with the road tires (235/75/15 ATs) and a gas tank leak (2 screw holes on top where the PO decided to screw the woofer into the tank). I also have the 3.73 gears (tow package) an auto-tragic transmission, and a 3" lift.

When I dropped the tank the gas gauge was lined up exactly on the E line, and it felt like I had 2 or 3 gallons left in it...

Tomorow I am testing the highway mileage with AC on (just got it fixed so I'm leaving it on all day... please, I roll the windows down to warm up!) and the tank patched. We'll see how she does

I get about 10% worse when I have on the 31X10.50 mudders (the party shoes, thats compensating for the speedo being off too), and I get about 10% worse when I drive 75-80mph, rather than 65-70mph... about 20% worse when I do both...

Anyways, at 35" you are at 19.25 percent over stock and your speedo runs about 24 percent slow. So when speedo says 50 your at 38 mph... And when speedo says 65 your at 50...
I'd guess and say your at about 13 mpg...
lol i know, I have been careful. but the part about the MPH is the complete opposite. when my speedo says 50 im going 65, and so on. i have a speed trap in my neighborhood and when my speedo says 25, Im going roughly 30 give or take a few

I get about 170-180 out of a tank, but i can only fit 11-12 gallons when I fill up, and I usually fill right after the light comes on. I think something is wrong...the 96 should be a 20 gallon metal tank, and my tank is metal so i dont think it is a replacement.

That is what I thought too, but it is for the most part, consistently wrong. My dad, the PO insists it has a 15 gallon tank but I am sure he is basing that off the gauge as well. I think I have squeezed 13.5 gallons in once after running with the light on a while.

The only way to be certain short of dropping the tank: carry a small gas can filled up and run the Jeep out of gas one day then see how much to fill it. Not the greatest thing to do for the fuel pump, but running out of gas once won't kill it.
