Melted TPS wiring?
Hey all, another roadblock to what should have been a 2 minute TPS test, in my efforts to replace the pigtail with cracked degraded wiring, i discovered that the TPS wiring is all melted together, not from a short, from external heat. Is this the norm for a Jeep??? 98 4.0 auto

The way the 4.0 has the intake directly above the exhaust pretty much ensures that everything on it bakes. So I wouldn't be surprised if wires get hot enough to somewhat melt together, although the TPS shouldn't be THAT close to the heat. I could understand if it was an O2 sensor wiring.
Might have to cut back to where it's not melted and replace.

My engine in the Datsun is the same design, intake/exhaust on the same side, but i see 30+ year old Z cars with less heat damage on their fuel injection components... sigh...ill start hacking back and hopefully things arent so damaged i need a new engine harness.........

Because Nissan/Datsun > Chrysler lol, but even they realized how dumb that was and eventually moved the intake to the OTHER side of the engine in their later straight 6's like the RB.
Every engine following the venerable L engine has proper intakes :P
Here's my current engine

Irony? THe guy who helped me build it slapped this onto a ****ty valve cover as an acronym for "Just Empty Every Pocket" when the engine was new.

Hahah awesome! I've heard that acronym before for Jeeps, but I imagine an early Datsun would be the same principle. The only Z I've owned was a 90' 300zx, sometimes I still miss it. I'm a sucker for a clean 510 though, or a 240z.
Like with any used older vehicle, there are restoration steps you have to take , rebuild the suspension front and rear I upgraded the brakes on all four corners and now has a five speed transmission a limited slip differential and a built-up 1.9 L engine , and I have gone through the vehicles wiring front to rear top to bottom and cleaned all connections end restored/repaired some previous owner hacks from over the years , and it has been the most reliable low-cost vehicle of all the vehicles I own aside from my 97 Nissan pickup truck. only reason I went for a jeep over an Xterra was because my family has owned several jeeps of the years and they have all been very reliable and it is a lot more cost-effective to modify a jeep , not to mention Xterra's from 15 years ago still cost over $5000... Lol
