Default Mechanical fan issue

Hello to all,

Long time watcher and no to ofter poster sorry. work a lot and family life takes presidence.

So here is my issue with my 99 cherokee 6 cyl classic. I had to replace the engine do to the original owner from west virginia that lied to me and sold me a jeep with a cracked block! ok shrug! karma will get ya! cool. Next I couldn't get her in time so my stupid tax was a 150.00 for the mechanic! eeerrrrr! ok shrug!!! On my way home I hear a ting and the wa whining scream of the belt ah! ok shrug!! I am almost home now.

So I get home and guess what the mechanical fan pulley does not spin anymore!!!!!!! WTF? Now I know for a fact that the 4 bolts that hold the fan on are torqued to spec. Besides that has nothing to do with the fan spinning. So before it went to the shop I triple touched every bolt (short term memory is long gone!) But the pulley will still not turn. What is the name of the part that I need to replace? Is it a bearing? Thank you all for the help and listening. I really appreciate it. Have a great day!

It is a bearing pressed into the actual mount that bolts to the engine. I say convert to e-fan!

The part is the a/c compressor bracket. The compressor and belt driven fan both bolt to it and the bracket bolts the block/head. A new one is rather pricey at $300+.

Do a lot of research/homework if thinking about converting to all efans.......very few efans will even come close to moving the amount of air the OE factory set-up will move and the few that do will likely place a really high amp/electrical load on the XJ electrical system.

Thank you for the input. thats not cool. when I did this I replaced eerrrrrr never mind lets laugh about it. SO I will do my home work on the efan. I am just looking to get out from underneath the money pit! I think it is time to take a trip to the junk yard for a new mount. I can have 30 of them from a a junk yard and I will replace them once a week if I have to LOL.

I think I am going to try my luck with a junk yard part. I just checked and they are 8.00 and a warranty of 1.36. Under 10 dollars it sounds like a great fix.

This is soooo true!!! The first thing a lot of people say is to put e-fans. Personally I have seen many do this and regret it. Because they don't realize the the stock mechanical fan will almost always put out more air flow then most of the e-fans that you get at the parts store. I know that you can get good quality e-fans that can put out the flow needed but you are going to be paying a lot more for them.

I think it's what $200-$300 for the fans and controllers?

Make sure you get a bracket from a 1996, and up, XJ. They are the same part number.

Ebay has them once in awhile.

Yep, I don't remember what year the dealer parts guy said they changed the bracket style, but we were on a very short fuse and had to have a bracket that day...............we thought. Our noise turned out to be bad dizzy bushings.......well duh. Oh well, we'll hold on to our OE a/c bracket for when the time comes.

......and in addition to the OE belt fan pulling way more CFM than the OE efan, folks don't realize the OE efan is very potent at 2300 CFM* which is way more than most 10" aftermarket efans.

The OE factory fan set-up is not the weak link in the XJ cooling system....it's that dinky radiator, but that's a whole different thread. With that dinky radiator, u certainly don't want cooling fans that move less CFM than OE stock.
