So I have a big problem with oil in my air filter box. I have a pic below. I just replaced the PCV Valve tubing and going to replace the gromet (Having a hard time trying to get that out). Will I have to take the valve cover off to replace that? Also what else should I look at to make sure and cut down on this? Every tube going to the air box is dripping with oil lol. So replace them all? ALSO what is the easiest way to clean oil off of things? Just wipe it down real good with shop paper towels? Also on cables how do you get the grime off of those? Degrease some and then wipe?

Your headed in the right direction. The PCV system isnt working. You need that system to remove the blowby gasses that are created by the engine as well as the fact that the crankcase volume is constantly changing because the pistons are going up and down.So it Must Breathe.
Not sure how you get the grommett out but I dont think you will have to remove the valve cover to get it out. (??).

I would do a compression test to rule out a broken ring or leaking valve etc that might be pressurizing the crankcase too......

Take the oil fill cap off the valve cover while its running and see how much blowby you have... Looks like you have more of a problem than just the CCV not working.

Because of this thread I just checked mine. Its fine after close to 900 miles since Ive changed it, Still looks like new. Mine is a 89 too, so you have a problem...

Might as well pull the valve cover and clean/ rebuild the ccv inside the valve cover....man that's alot of oil. I use starting fluid to clean stuff just don't smoke!!

The CCV system isn't working...there's a chance there's something else is wrong also but don't jump the gun. The parts that are in the valve cover actually come out quite easy...you either turn them a 1/4 turn to the left or right(idr which and its been a while since I did mine) and they just pop right out. Shouldn't be but $20 or so at the dealership for parts. do that first and buy a new air filter, change everything at the same time and check it after a couple days. there should be hardly any to no oil on your air filter...if there's lots of oil you have a serious issue and need to progress to a compression check amongst other things.

From what i have been told is that the 4.o does not cool the #6 cylinder as well as it should and your blow by may be caused bad piston rings. I had this problem and replaced the engine and have not had a problem since.

Ya I will replace the ccv system and thats just the grommet and pipe going from the valve cover to the vaccum lines? The 1 piece? (well 2 if you count the grommet)

You want to replace both the front and back hoses (outlined in yellow) and the grommets in the valve cover (circled in yellow).
Have you checked for blowby, Like I mentioned earlier? No sense in replacing everything if you have a ton of blowby forcing oil through the tubes.

you needa just make you a dickiedoo to catch the oil. get you a tin can with a little bittie cone filter on top so it can breath and put the hose that goes to your airbox to your can. itll catch the oil so it dosnt end up in your air cleaner

I got the back hose but cant seem to find the front hose and grommet anywhere to purchase?

Hmm... Maybe you can Just buy some oil resistant hose for the front one, I dont know what to do for the grommet though.

I think the back grommet is the important one, and the front is just a pass through.
