A Marine Stereo in a Jeep
Because my Jeep's stock stereo deck no longer recognizes cd's,and because the previous owner's mechanic is an idiot (cut all kinds of wires, and just terrible splicing jobs) I have been toying with the idea of replacing the setero. However most stereo decks are thinner than the stock which would either require a "shelf" under it or lots of plastic, both tacky options.

While I was in Best Buy the other day, browsing through items far outside my price range, I saw an elegant solution. A marine stereo. Its larger, tougher, and as you would expect water resistant. While the third quality isnt really something Im personally looking for, the marine stereo is well built, and beefy; I wouldn't be worried about scratching it. And best of all its wider so it would take up more space.
So, is anyone or anyone know anyone who is using a marine sereo in a car?

mmm it may be bigger and fill the hole better, but you're going to have a hell of a time mounting it correctly in your dash. The gap filling mounting kits for DIN size stereos usually look pretty decent if you get the right one (crutchfield usually includes it for free or for really cheap).
