Question MAP Vacuum Line

1987 Cherokee 4.0L (Renix FI system)

I need to replace the vacuum line from the TB to the MAP sensor. I've done some searching and have a fair idea of what to do but need to nail down a few specifics.

Is the needed line 3/16" interior dimension?

The grommet is still in place in the TB so I don't see a need to tap it and place a fitting in there. When I install the line will it just slip into the grommet? Do I need to use any sealant or adhesive?

Same thing when I install it in the MAP sensor. Any sealant or adhesive needed?

As a side note, I'm thinking of using braided brake line. It's flexible so no bending would be required that would be if I use steel lines , it's heat resistant and sturdy so I don't have to worry about it melting or collapsing, and it's around $4.00 a foot so it's not expensive. Any reason this wont work?

I keep my Cherokee about 70 miles a way so I can't just step out to check it. Thanks.

I can't tell you the size but I would not recommend using a brake hose in a vacuum applicaiton. Use the correct vacuum rated hose, not fuel line. HPS also sells silicone vacuum line which will last much longer than rubber hose.

I wouldn't use any sealant. Off gassing from the silicone could effect the readings the sensors are seeing.... maybe that's a ridiculous thought, who knows.... but the correct size hose will fit snugly. Map sensor may come with a gasket...Home Depot or Harbor freight sells cheap micrometers you can use to measure the inside diameter of the hose, but since you aren't close to it, that wouldn't really work right now. Maybe hit the parts store and see if they carry that hose and then measure it there, then you'll know. And 3/16" isn't hard to measure on a standard tape measure either...

Is it a rigid shaped line or is it a straight tube? Hardware store probably sells rubber hose by the foot.......

If you can find out what other years have the same hose you may be able to find one in decent shape at the junkyard...
