Default manual to automatic window conversion

alright guys, im going to the pull-a-part this upcoming weekend and today i started thinking about how much i hate bending over the passenger seat and rolling down my passenger window everyday(no A/C, have to) and how nice it would be to have automatic windows. I know that most all things in these jeeps is plug and play as jeep used the same wiring harness, but did they make a 2 door with automatic windows? reason being ive never heard of or seen one with them, also if it CAN be done, how much work is it gonna be? or...if you have a thread on it you can point me in that direction as i found nothing

on a side note....how hard would it be to put in automatic locks as well? if its not alot of trouble i woundnt mind having it

just get complete doors with power windows and locks. Then wire up your own power and grounds to them with inline fuse.

pull the door wiring, window regulators, locks.

pull up the front carpet and remove the wiring that crosses from the driver's door to the passenger door

plug it all into your jeep

call it good.

the only true "plug and play" power conversion is 1997+. it's all still plug and play for '95, but it's a little more involved with more wires to get. still easy enough.

well if you can't find any, I still have my power window regulators that I pulled outta my 89 xj since the wiring was all messed up thanks to the previous owner.

thanks, that was exactly what i was looking to hear, i do have one more question though, will the auto windows and locks work from a 4 door? i figured it would be hard to find a 2 door with auto locks and windows .....also, did any pre-97 model come with a remote lock? i know 97+ did

the regulators are the same between the 2dr and 4dr. take a drill, the factory usually rivets them in.

my only concern was that the doors on the 2 doors are bigger than those on the 4 doors arent they? thats just what i heard, so i could be wrong, i just want to make sure all the mechanics of it are gonna work out

all of that stuff interchanges as far as regulators and lock actuators.

yes, you can swap all of that. you may need to extend some wires, and you will be eliminating thhe rear wires, but no big deal.

it would be best to find a similar year, same door style xj for parts, though.

alright, sounds good to me, also got another question, pulled my door panel off today and found a layer of foam under it that seems glued on, does this have any special use or is it just some sort of sound deadening layer?

more or less I think it shows weather the door has been modified or had anything replaced. so, if it's still glued on, it's all original.

it does also seem to help block air flow.

speaking of air flow.....while i have the door panel off, is there anyway to keep that air from just blowing through the handle and lock? it just flows through there like theres a hole in the door

I did a second gen door swap and went from manual to electric windows and locks.

basically you'll need some OEM wiring diagrams. You need to find an ignition wire, and a good ground. You will also need some relays from an XJ in the junkyard.

Here's a great article. It gave me everything I needed to know to do the conversion.
