Manual 1998 Jeep Cherokee rough start/running
Hi guys, first post on this forum as I have been unable to locate the source of my problem from other threads.
Background:
My manual 1998 Inline 6 4.0L Jeep Cherokee has had a history of electrical problems which resulted in the destruction of many of its electrical components due to overcharging of the battery. Me and my father have replaced the following systems over the last month:
ECM
throttle position sensor
crankcase position sensor
camshaft position sensor
spark plugs
distributor cap
MAP sensor
Clock spring
Fuel pump
Other sundry sensors that were fried
We have crawled over this vehicle and tested wiring, so we don't believe it to be wiring but it is still possible.
Symptoms:
1) Rough starting, takes 10 seconds of cranking or more to putter into an idle
2) Idles smoothly but past ~1500 RPM sound like it fires too early and pings like mad and loses any power
3) Throwing a 1391 code from the ECM
Any help would be appreciated, we're currently stumped.

I have a 1998 cherokee with very similar symptoms but mine is throwing an idle air control valve code. So far i have not found a solution. At this point im thinking there may be a vacuum leak or something to do with the map sensor. I have replaced the iac, but it resulted in a 2500 rpm idle, so i put the old one back in. Someone with a similar problem with a chevy said it ended up being the water temp sensor that was causing the high idle. I am going to mess with that after work, ill let you know what happens.
