So I have been looking at the old mod of putting a 99+ intake manifold on a pre 99 Jeep XJ.. Anyone who has done this wanna share results?
I have a 1991 XJ, and I am thinking of this mod. What all is needed? I read on one site that the guy used 2000 injectors and had to get a new fuel regulator and some other stuff.. Basically, Im asking is it worth it, what is needed, and how is it done?
Thanks in advance!

Theres a thread floating around that goes into detail specifing the different injectors and FPR's required.
I'm waiting to install a 99 intake right now.
But what I have read is it does not have much advantage over the stock unit.
But I'm gonna take a chance and see for myself later this month.

only new parts i needed for the swap
-00 manifold
-power steering pump and bracket that goes to that year
i re-used my stock fuel rail and TB
i also removed an Idler pulley and had to trim down the timing sight hole a bit to clear the belt

Since you asked:
I put an '01 intake on my '96. Pretty straightforward install, just bolts in place. Power steering pump fits the same (AFAIK on older models it's different). Vacuum hoses fit up a bit different. The '01 manifold has different fittings/ports - I modified it before I put it on, to simplify the hosing: The '01 manifold has 3 cast-in nipples on the left side. I ripped these out, and drilled/tapped 1/4" NPT, so I could use fittings of my choice. I could make all the hoses and the IAT sensor fit right up, except I needed to extend one 1/4" vacuum hose. There is a bracket that holds the fuel line up under the manifold - I cut the end off and drilled a new hole in it, to fit the single bolt in the '01 manifold. I used the stock fuel injectors. My throttle body is bored out.
RESULT:
I didn't like it. I felt it had less torque than before (there's a hill on my way home from work - I growl up this hill in 5th gear, 50 mph, 1400 revs. With new manifold I could only hold my speed, with the original manifold I can accelerate slightly). I felt acceleration was "lumpier" than before.
After a couple weeks, I took it off, and put the original back on.
Anybody wanna buy an '01 intake? Nicely cleaned up, all burrs removed (so you don't cut your hands to ribbons installing...) $175. Maybe it would work good with an automatic, where you're never going to pull down at way low revs. Maybe it would work good with bigger injectors - but I don't think so, I monitored my O2 sensor, it was working closed-loop with either manifold (indicating that the ECU was controlling the fuel mixture correctly)
YMMV
