Default Managed to break Oil pressure sending unit, safe to drive?

Was about to do a quick oil and filter change when I slipped on the installed filter and knocked the OPSU and broke it where the plastic meets the metal. Did a quick tape job but now the gauge sits at about 3 mm from bottoming out. Is the engine still getting oil and is it safe to drive a short distance in order to get it to the garage?

Also, does the PCM need re-programming after installing a new one or is it just a plug and play thing?

As long as it isn't spraying oil all over you will be fine. But it may not give you the correct pressure.
It's a plug and play, NO programming involve for the pcm.
BTW, Buy the oils sending unit directly from the dealer.

Ok, so the engine is getting oil pressure but the gauge can't show it?
It doesn't spray any oil atm, guess the electrical tape is holding up ok.

Do you mean I have to get it programmed after installing?

Thanks for the heads up about the dealer part, will call them after the easter holidays over here. .

Nope, it broke where the plastic meets the metal; couldn't get it off either, all I saw was something looking like a green plastic connection on the inside. No oil coming out, I'm guessing the remaining plastic piece is sealing the unit.

Not a problem.
BTW, The reason I said to get the part from the dealer is they are more compatible and more accurate to go along with the OEM gauge. Yes, You will pay a little more for it but so much more reliable.

Probably the way to go, after reading a few threads on the OSU it seems like the cheap copies don't work very well.

Now I just have to check if I have the US plug or a European version.

Thanks again.

Do not delay on this.

A partially broken oil pressure sending unit can become a fully broken oil pressure sending unit in a microsecond and then you have an engine bay of oil and a wounded engine.

And yes, buy it from the Jeep dealer for best reliability and longevity.

I'll let the Jeep sit until I get the correct part, would hate to have it turn into something worse.

Got an OEM pressure unit and put it on, but the reading isn't the same as it was with the old one. I used to get around 40 at idle and around 50-60 when driving – now it reads at 20 when idle and about 40 when driving.

What could be the reason behind this?

Am running 5w40 which is due a change and an intermittent lifter tick that comes and goes – could this point to a bad oil pump?
