i have a 1988 cherokee laredo with the 4.0L amc I6 and has ba-10/5 5 speed i was thinking of making it 4wd what i need to no is did the 4x2 come with a difrint transmission then the 4x4 y i ask is will i be abel to just fined a front end and trasfer case to fit in it or did the 4x4 come with a shorter transmission to fit a tranfer case under there

That trans is a POS, And you would need a different trans anyways. So I recommend tracking down a ax-15/np231 combo. You will also need front axle (D30s came stock, you can pick any year but go with a HP30 if you can), driveshafts from a 4wd with manual trans, all required linkages, etc. Best bet would be to find a donor vehicle that has all the suspension/drivetrain parts, because then you can just swap everything over. Or maybe find a newer one that has ax-15/np231 and sell yours?

Well thats kinda far Im in las vegas I have an 88 parts truck Im trying to get ride of and its 4x4 so it has most of the parts to convert.
