Major Braking Issues
well mines not even stiff. it will go to the floor and say you brake suddenly cus the traffic is backed up and they are stopped. they dont just GRAB and stop like they should. i mean they do OK. but still i know if i was in the situation id plow right through the back end of somebodys car.
i know the feeling of brakes like that mine do it to i have just gotten used to it but i think mine has to do with needing new rear shoes and drums. also any chance they had done any thing with the master cyln. if you odnt bench bleed it will be like that for a while
well no i watched my uncle do it and all he did was resurface the rotors and install new front brake pads. but it seems to me like either the pads aren't doing right or the brakes aren't putting enough pressure. i had the back brakes get new shoes. that job was done right the braking power did improve. but the front was done by my uncle (who will never see another one of my vehicles again) and something is just not right. before it went in (and this was a couple months ago. ive tried to stick it out cus i had other stuff break but dang) and wen it came out it's just braking a whole new crappy way.
im thinking put new pads on it. what do yall think?

Get on a gravel road and hit the brakes hard see which ones lock up (Make sure you not gonna slide anywhere you dont want to). If it doesnt feel like power might be the booster but usually you can hear a vacuum leak on that. If they need bled try pumpiing them a few times before you stop see if that helps.

im thinkin just put brake pads on it of my choice. they make a sound when their lightly depressed for instance at the edge of a driveway... they squawk. i left work tonight and its just hard to hold it at stop when you first start driving it. you have to press them so hard. but once u drive a little they do improve. but still no tight grab and locks if you need.

Did the brake drums come off easily or were the brake shoes backed off to remove the drums? If they were backed off the shoes will need to be adjusted to a "slight drag" on the drums. When applied the shoes (and pads) only move .010-015". If the shoes are an 1/8" away you'll be lucky if you can stop at all.
BTW the drum (rear) brakes always apply first, then as pressure builds the pads start to move. The front brakes usually provide 70% of the force to stop the vechicle.
ETA:
You may be able to adust the shoes by using the parking brake handle. The handle travel will be alot longer than usual, and when you reach the end of that travel you should hear a click as the adjuster moves. Keep pulling and releasing the handle until the clicking sound stops, then see what the pedal is like.

Your power brake booster runs on a very strong vacuum. Run the jeep for a few minutes then shut it off. wait a few more minutes then try and pull the vacuum out of the booster it should still have quite a bit of vacuum.
well the back ones i know are adjusted right. we had someone we trust do those and hes a real professional mechanic whos an old family friend (wish he had of done the front ones the first time anyway). but from what he says, we either need different pad type or new booster so we're gonna try pads first. if not we'll go from there. ill keep u guys posted.
