I was driving last night on the highway and heard 3-4 loud bumps followed by a lurching in the drive system. Engine idles normally, no fluid loss from any system, and I didnt run over any road hazards. Transmission shifts in and out of drive as normal.

The lurching is pulsatile, if the xj is in drive I can drive forward with periodic lurching and loss of power. The lurching occurs about every 3 seconds.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

 

Is there anything about it in the local papers? Are the cops looking for your ride? lol j/k

What happens if you stand on the gas from a stop? Any codes?
