The formal specs called out in the factory service manuals has varied widely over the years even though every XJ has used 1/2"x20 studs. For your 93, the manual likely called out 80-110 ft-lbs, but later models changed that to 85-115 for clean and dry threads. I've always used 100-105 ft-lbs and have never had a problem.

two steps in torquing lug nuts.....first torque to the lower number on all lugs, then go back and re torque to the higher number. The torque specifications are not a range.

I've always torqued them when I first lower the vehicle back to the ground, and then I do it again after I've driven it a short distance. But the Cherokee is the only vehicle I've owned that had two numbers.

Probably for the same reason before dropping the 4.0 in the XJ they added a oil filter adapter for clearance and put the adapter on with a bolt with red loctite that has very little access to get a socket on it once the engine is mounted.
