Default Lubing CV joint

My 92 XJ came with a needle adapter to grease the CV joints. My haynes manual has a weak description stating to just put the needle in the joint. I rotated the CV and see no opening to put the adapter in. Do i need to take off the lock rings and caps to access it ?

Thanks in advance

The needle is used to pierce the rubber cover. You pretty much just stab it in and grease it up. On a side note...are you sure you have CV joints? I wasn't aware they came on XJs.

My u joints have grease fittings. I thought its called a CV joint. Its between the drive shaft and transfer case. I have the limited model with 4wheel full time if that makes a differnence ?

I don't know what joints came with what model, but I know you don't want to stick a needle in your CV joint boot. If they're torn and leaking, they're most likely on their way out.. Grease leaks out, crap gets in, then they wear out sooner. They don't need to be greased periodically and for sure don't need any holes in them. Just my $0.02
