Anybody know a good way to go about extracting a rear lower shock mount stud for the rear axle.the person who owned the jeep before me did a janky job of repairing it and then stripped the threads on it...and if anyone has any links to a replacement stud that would be much appreciated
Yeah that's not a thread out and thread a new one in kinda stud.
What kinda condition is it in?
I almost had to repair one of mine because I was sure the nut was rusted solid enough to snap the threaded part off. My plan was to cut the stud off, drill it out, and put a bolt through the hole. Hopefully with a bolt that was the right size. If not then i was going to use a sleeve. Also would have welded the head of the bolt in place from the backside of the bracket
I would much rather cut this old one off and weld on a new bolt! The bolt that's on it is bent and the tip of the bolt is stripped..the person before me that owned the jeep had attempted to do what I want to do and did a crappy job of it..was just seeing if there was anything easier than doing that..and also seeing if anyone had any bolt suggestions maybe they used in the situation
I used Crown Automotive J0912703 Shock Absorber Mounting Stud. Have to grind down the boss a little and drill a 9/16" hole (or a 1/2' hole and file like crazy). And buy the nuts cause it don't come with them.
Awesome thanks for that part number I will be putting in a order and do you have a pictures from the backside of the mount.did you weld a nut on the backside?
Thank you for the pics it gives me a good idea on what to do in went ahead and ordered that part should be here tomorrow so hopefully I can get it installed Saturday afternoon or sunday
