Does the lower instrument cluster meaning the headlamp switch,fog lamp switch,rear defoger switch,wiper switch,cigar lighter switch,and transfer case selection illuminate (or backlight) when the head lights are turned on.Mine dont and I cant tell if they are supossed to with that antiquated looking dash.Thanx

 

Did you try turning the headlight switch?

 

Yes, this is not the guage lights.(speedo, tach ect.).Its the items I mentioned below the instrument cluster.Thanx

 

mine dosent on a 95. and I removed the heater control from a parts jeep 1996, after someone said it had a backlight, and there was no bulb / place for one. idk if this helps.

 

SORRY! "with that antiquated looking dash" wasn't sure where you where. "yes..we use to call them "*****!"....No help here except I think that 96 has a boatload of fuses. Good luck.

 

On my '96 Country, All of the items you listed have backlights. With the exceptions of the headlight switch, and the cigar lighter socket.
I recently fixed my Heater/AC control backlight, and the one for my rear wiper switch(both had burned out bulbs)
Transfer case selector, and Gear indicator both have backlights on mine also. They all come on with the parking lights, and all dim with the dash dimmer function of the headlight switch.

 

Thanx for the replies.FireHawk068 is right.Just replaced the funny looken things that were in there with new #37 bulbs(fog,wiper,and defrost back lights)and alls good.What was in there was not a bulb.It kinda look like some sort of diode.Definitly not a glass light bulb.
