Default low pinion Dana 30

Anyone have an idea why Chrysler chose to switch to a low pinion Dana 30 in 2000 and 2001?!

Probably cause they knew the xj was getting chopped and they decided to use the tj diffs. I would have bought a new tj if they still had the 4.0 instead of my f-250. Talk about stupid ideas, fans of jeep will all agree that the I6 is iconic. I know they were pushing the fuel econ. but I feel that there was still some fuel economy development left in the 4.0. I guess in the end the jeep is a box anyway how can you expect drastic mpg improvement? Maybe they'll bring back the 2.8?!!!!

They had been using them in the TJ since 97 and the ZJ since 93, guess it was cheaper too.

well that makes perfect sense... usually changes are motivated by saving money or to improve fuel economy
