so my jeep does have the 0331 cylinder head
now how do i know for sure that my head is cracked there dosent seem to be any coolant in the oil or vise versa. i think ill drive it a little more and see if any bubbles re visible
are there any other ways to see if its cracked without taking stuff apart?
Take the oil cap off and get a flashlight.

As an owner of an '00 XJ who just replaced a cracked 0331 head, my symptom was "unexplained" loss of coolant and milky substance under the oil cap. I know some folks say you can see the crack through the oil cap hole right between cyl3 and cyl4 but I couldn't. I don't think anyone can say with 100% certainty each and every 00-01 head cracks but there is enough evidence out there to suggest it is a very common problem. And sadly it almost does not matter how well the vehicle is maintained.
I caught mine early enough to just do a little damage as my oil pressure sits at 15 PSI at hot idle. Had I waited longer I would have had to deal with a zero oil pressure.

OK. I got it figured out you have two threads going on the same thing. That doesn't really help, (at least from this point of view). I do realize that at least one or my responses made no sense, "make sure it is going around". Of course it is, if you do have pressure.

Because two different pumps have been in, and you get oil spurting out the sensor hole, what does that leave...

*The PO was less than truthful? Did they do all that and then bolt on another 0331? Could it then, after the work caused a problem? (Just a footnote, here on the web, I 'm learning things I haven't seen, and can't imagine. Right here on this forum is the first, and only place I personally have learned that a small amount of Etheline glycol will ruin the engine bearings http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethylene_glycol.

*the mechanical gauge, that day at that time, there was some problem?

* somewhere in the murky multitude of engine info that has filtered in over the years, THE LIFTERS THEMSELVES according to someone somewhere can be a source of a loss of oil pressure.

* and again, maybe best, change the filter, an find out if the oil pressure relief valve is working as it should.
