That is ok.... as long as you don't drop below ten psi. You could replace the oil sending unit if you to, just to be sure. Its only like 30 dollars.

My oil pressure drops down to zero at stop lights (cracked cylinder i believe) but still runs completely fine! When it stops running I'll fix it then lol

Then your cylinder is most likely fine.

Thats what I said lol. But the oil pressure is really low. I had it tested and its not the sensor.. Even testing it without the sensor it reads the same?

As for the OP. Xj's with low oil pressure is not common. Friends family has owned one and it has 50,000 miles, all stock, and the oil pressure is almost identical to yours. Maybe get a thicker oil to boost it up a little? 15w-40?

So you had a mechanical sensor installed and it read the same?

having the same problems except im around 12 at idle when it warms up. Buddy of mine works at the Chrysler stealership as a mechanic, told me not to worry till it is reading well below 10 almost zero. I still dont like it an it bothers the crap out of me but aslong as theres any pressure at idle it should be ok according to everyone ive talked to

That is correct, you will be ok as long as you don't drop below ten. As is said before, you can replace the oil sending unit yourself for 30 dollars and that will most likely fix your problem. You could install a mechanical oil pressure checker to make sure its your sending unit going bad at not actually low pressure.

Same problem, strated last night on the trail. Check guage light came on. Zero oil pressure, at 1400 rpm, light went out and pressure jumped to 20 psi. Light came back on at 1000 rpm and pressure went back to zero. Mechanic friend said to change oil first, easiest, then unit next.

i bought my 98 xj and it sat for a while 220,000km nice engine no leaks but little to no oil pressure i changed oil to 5w30 and it cam back for a the first week then went away in the realy cold days like -20 it came back to 15 for a while then it would go. i took it out got stuck in mud i barely had oil pressure got out of mud and bottem end was shot i popped hood the oil looked thin like gas was in it! but it wasnt. i pulled oil pan to find my rings from one cylinder in the pan the brass ring known as the oil ring was all in powderd peices. i figure the rings were gone old man drivin and wrecked cylinder wall burning oil and thined the oil and a final blew main bearing.
