Alright guys i went out wheeling yesterday and noticed when the Jeep got over 210 temp wise the oil pressure at idle was around 10-15psi (if that) so i figured the oil pump took a crap but if i gave it some gas the oil pressure would top 40psi.......

I also noticed that when i fired her up today (after sitting all night) the oil pressure was 40 @ idle and seemed to be fine could it be the oil thinning out when it gets hot? The reason why im asking is because i put some Autozone 10w40 in her for the 1st time any idea whats going on here???

Thanks.......

well it could of been that...but how bad were you out there cause if you covered the radiator...that could get hot and raise temp and maybe thin out the oil...but to thin it 10 - 15 psi when your usin 10w - 40...idk hope this help

mine used to do the same thing.
I replaced the oil pressure sending unit and oil pump...
I don't know if the sending unit was bad or not, but the difference in the old pump (150k miles) vs new was scary (spinning them by hand)... I believe that is what made the difference.
On the road the old pump was fine, but, hot, low rpm off road it could not keep up... I too run 10w40

It's funny because i just replaced this oil pump about 4-6 months ago......

And from what i remember last time when the old one went bad if i reved it up the pressure still stayed @ 0-5psi and also started knocking......

Now when the oil pressure start's dropping it goes up as soon as i give it gas and doesnt make any abnormal noises such as knocking etc. so im clueless im thinking of changing the oil (using thicker oil) and also a new oil pressure sending unit im hoping that will take care of the problem.....

as long as you are above 7psi you have nothing to worry about (according to alldata)

mine drops to zero when it gets really hot

Not to hijack but can you change the oil pump by dropping the pan with engine in-place?

It's a b!tch to do but it can be done if you jack the motor up and some and manuver the pan out....

the oil pressure sending unit probably failed more likely than the oil pump

depending on what size lift , i herd if its lifeted fairly decent you can drop the oil pan leaving the motor bolted in
