Yea, looking back it probably wasn't the best decision. My initial reaction was just give it gas asap and get the oil pressure back up that way. I have never had this problem, so I just did what I thought was right at that moment. The oil pressure climbed right back up after accelerating, so I guess it worked. I just found it very odd that the needle jumped from 10 psi to 0 instantly, so I figured it might have been the gauge acting up. I figured if it was really losing pressure it would crawl to zero gradually not jump to zero. Next time this happens I will try it your way if that is what your supposed to do, obviously I did not know what to do at the time.

Where exactly is the sending unit?

Right near the oil filter. I'd pull the electrical connector, look inside, and see if it's oily due to the sending unit leaking internaly.

Minimum 13 psi at hot idle and 45-60 at highway speeds. And at the risk of breaking the optimism, in most cases replacing the oil filter will not restore low oil pressure due to tired oil pump or worn engine components.

Add in all the cure-all voodoo additives, like seafoam, MMO, etc., to the mix and we'd have a real shoot-out. Oh, and penetrating oil - can't forget to douche it down with PB Blaster for a month.
