I know this is an old thread, but worth a shot. My jeep is doing this and I can get the sound to go away if I push my brakes very hard while stopped in drive and it doesn't happen anymore. It is almost always when I hold normal stopping pressure on the brakes at a light, but stops if I mash them down. Not sure what the problem is, hoping to look into it more this weekend
Take a wooden handled hammer. Hold.it by the head. Wear gloves and a sweatshirt. Don't burn yourself. Russell. The jeep in park till it rattles. Mine had to be warn. Push on pipes and the cat heat shield, all different places with the hammer handle end. Until it stops. .. u found it.

Welcome, Brett. This thread is pretty old, so you might not get a reply from the OP. You can see the date of a post right above the user name. It's always a good idea to check that.
As for your problem, when you go into drive, your engine speed changes a bit, so rattles can change. That's a strong indication that you have something loose. Time to crawl under there and do some pushing and shoving.
Did you ever find a the cause of this sound? I have the same noise in drive, goes away in park.
I didn't ever find it. I crawled under it, but never found anything loose that I could feel. I never had someone get in it and hold it in drive with the brakes on. I'm thinking that would have been the only way to find it. It only happened in cold weather so I hadn't messed with it in awhile and I sold the Jeep the other day. Good luck though
