This has me stumped. I had the windshield replaced and I replaced my headliner in my 99 XJ.

Took it out on the freeway and for the first time ever it's like someone is blowing an air horn on the roof at 60mph. It's so loud it hurts your ears. It sounds and feels like it's coming from a vibration in the roof but I can't for the life of me figure out what in the world would be causing this.

Any ideas?

Kind of sounds like a air leak, leaking past the glass perhaps and making the grommet vibrate?

The rear-most spar came unglued from the roof panel in my '94, sounding like being inside a drum. Perhaps the same thing happened further forward and thus the noise is different. 3m 04274 is the proper fix, if that's your issue...

My chrome strip around my windshield was loose in the upper corner, and made this exact noise. It took at least 50 mph to do it. And when it was parked, the loose piece was undetectable. I would start there, since you just had the windshield fixed.

 

Do you have a roof rack ? or anything else on the roof .

 

It's a '99 Cherokee, it has the stock roof rack. But nothing changed there. It sounds like it's coming from the top of the roof like perhaps are on the windshield. But it has that rubber strip all the way around it that's glued on I don't see any imperfections except maybe the top left corner it doesn't cover the gap completely.
