Yep, it scares the hell out of my wife when it does it.

Yours is/was somewhat worse than mine.

 

Is it possible something got stuck in a vent or the fan when I went mudding?

 

very unlikely... but not impossible. it would require you performing the same method to check and see s if you were replacing it tho..

 

Last week I turned on the heat and I got a big puff of black smoke blow through the vents for a good 10 seconds. Smelled like leaves burning though, not electrical. The blower was still working on it, so I didn't think much of it and the smoke cleared up anyway. Now though, speeds 1-3 don't work at all. The highest speed works, but is very noisy - almost like putting baseball cards in your bicycle wheel spokes.

Is the motor gone? What would be the fix for this?
