Very true!

Mainly, I just wanted to check my thinking, and make sure I wasn't getting something screwed up. I've seen multi-switches fail in some odd ways, so I know what you're talking about for sure (how about a vehicle where the only lighting that works is the headlamps? No running lights, no taillamps, no IP lamps, no dome lights - which usually go through the IP dimmer circuit - and the headlamp dimmer was busted, so the headlamps only worked on full beam. Fun!

(Or the Honda I had that had all sorts of wiring faults - half of the IP illum worked, one taillamp, no park lamps, the whole taillamp assembly lit up when you hit the brake, ...

(I've no particular patience anymore for unskilled electrical techs making ersatz "repairs" - they usually end up just making things worse...)

Thumbs down

I have a 2001 Cherokee with no taillights or dash lights. Fuses are good
and I replaced headlight switch. Problem showed up after car would not start with no bus on odometer. Replaced the cps and that solved the not starting problem. Also there is no communication at the code retrival port. Would anyone have any ideas.

Be sure and pull your parking brake fuse before you put the ****/shaft back into the new switch. It will blow the fuse if not. I did it and then thought it wasnt the switch and went on a wild goose chase till I read Carver's post. Went and checked and found blown fuse. Replaced it and all was fine! Thanks, Carver and all the other helpful responses!
