Was driving down the road and noticed my cruise control didn't work. Light on the dash lit right up but wouldnt work when i hit the set button. Didn't have time to check any fuses, but wouldnt the light not turn on the dash if it was blown? Any suggestions are appreciated

check the vacuum lines. but i'm not sure if its still ran off the vacuum on the newer ones since you said you have a light that tells you when you have it on on my 94 i don't have that light haha i know its on when i can feel the gas pedal not move

Yes, check vacuum canister located on passenger side inside front bumper. Your Neutral Safety Switch (NSS) could also be dirty and be in need of a cleaning.

x3, check all vacuum lines. More than likely that is your problem. Old lines = cracked line = oops lol.

Since we're on the subject of Cruise Control, since I've owned mine, I never tried using it. If it doesn't work or has an issue, my XJ isn't gonna explode or rev to 6000rpm or hit 100mph is it?

Theres a line that runs behind the battery that rubs on the battery.Check there first.Turn you'r heater on and see if it works out of the dash.If it does then it's a vac line for sure.

im pretty sure that the nss has some effect on the cruise on the 97+. My Nss is not working, and i have no cruise now. It worked before i disconnected my Nss and jumped the connector. Id check if your reverse lights are working.

cruise also runs off of throttle position sensor. not saying yours is bad since cruise is your only complaint, but making it known.

i had a fuse not pop for my overhead lights when i was setting up camp late at night a few weeks ago. wire melted and burned cleaned threw the vacuum line thats right next to the fender and battery. luckily it was only a 6" section that had fittings on both ends, easy junkyard part.

My cruise has never worked, no lights or anything. Is this common? My buddy has a 1990XJ and his has never worked either, maybe we just need a whole new button assembly? They sell them at PepBoys just haven't tried it yet. There's so many other more important things I work on, never really cared about cruise but it would be nice.

Thanks for the replies, If I get time later I will check out the vacuum lines. I did see a wire hanging loose inside of my front bumper the other day but I'm not sure what it is. Forgot to mention earlier its a 99. Thanks again for everything.
