right before the harness. there are the 4 wires, and they were just wrapped around the o2s wires. unfortunately it would be a ton of work to get a new wire harness for the downstream o2 sensor and i THINK i matched em up correctly with my other cherokee (one that isnt so jimmy rigged), but i havent put it in yet, just the old one out and i matched up the wires on a paper diagram.

EDIT: If i had to guess, i think the PO did the splice right, the check engine light will go on and off, and it is for the 2 o2's. plus the two colored wires that hooked up to the grey and black o2 wires were correct, it slipped my mind to check if he had the 2 whites going to the right spots though.

EDIT 2: im going to the junkyard tom to cut a new harness off an old jeep and solder it to mine. if i get a 97+ one i know all the colors will line up, taking the guess work out of matching them. assuming the +5V sensor hasnt shorted.
