Edit- just saw your post. If there is a leak between the res and the pump and you bought it like that then absolutely yes that is a faulty part. They assembled it wrong and you should get a new one that hasn't been assembled wrong.
It's coming from the power steering pump. At first I thought it was the air intake. Problem is, I don't know where it could be leaking on the pump it self. One time I started it, fluid sprayed so I shut it off to make sure the lines were all on tight, which they were. Wonder if there is a leak on the pump and that's where the sprayed fluid came from.

Yeah just read your edit. Guess when I'll have to take it off and have a look see then.

An air leak that isn't solved will aerate the fluid continuously. If the leak isn't solved then you will have more problems as it becomes harder and harder to dissipate the air bubbles already present. Verify the leak is coming from between the pump and reservoir and then stop. You don't need to hunt why it's leaking from there you just need to know that it is and get a new one. Whomever sold it to you needs to give you a new one because they shouldn't have sold you a faulty part to begin with.

When you get the new one prime it with fluid and turn the pump a few times by hand then install it. That will help prevent initial-start-up-bubble-creating.

Good luck!

Yeah if I find out it is the pump leaking I'm taking it off right then and returning it for a new one.

And yes, it is aerating the fluid constantly. I just hope it didn't damage anything that last time I started it up and I heard grinding from what sounded like the gearbox.

That loud noise sounds like air in the system .. Run it lock to lock about a dozen times to get it all circulated and verify your drive belt is tight

Problem was a bad power steering pump. Took it out and warrantied it for a new one. Put it in and I have power steering again. There was a leak between the reservoir and pump.

Problem I have now is I have a leak on the return side. I think it's coming from the gearbox. I tightened up all the lines and it still does it. I wouldn't be surprised if they gave me a faulty gearbox too.

I'm glad you got power steering again! Also glad they warrantied it with no problems.

As for the leaks take the line off the gearbox and wrap some Teflon tape around the threads of the line going into the box. Make sure none of it covers feed hole, just put it on the threads. Then tighten it but don't do it too much.

You're almost close to being done with this!

I'm probably gonna have to take the box out again to fix the lines. The lines they gave me still have about 1/2" of thread left. I made sure they weren't cross threaded or what not. The ones I took off pretty much threaded all the way down with a lip all the way around to seal over the top. Could this be part of the problem of it leaking?

Hopefully I can get the box out again here in the next couple days. I'll update if I find anything out.

All done!!! The Teflon tape did the trick. I'm gonna monitor it closely over the next few days and make sure it doesn't come back.

Now...one thing I notice now is turning left it makes an almost fluid compression noise. Kinda like pressing the brakes without the vehicle turned on. There aren't any bubbles in the fluid anymore so looks like no air is entering. Still a remanned part so possibly just what it's gonna do now?

Yess! Problem solved!

Not sure what that noise could be. Id have to hear it to know what you mean. As long as you have p/s, not leaking fluid, and aren't getting an excess of bubbles in the system i wouldn't worry toooo much. Just monitor your conditions and see if you cant see where its coming from.

Youre right about remans being finicky still. On my old Ford Ranger i had a leaky pump and put in a reman Napa one, it was at least two times louder than the leaky one I pulled out but it didnt leak and had great pressure. Sometimes thats the luck of the draw.
