loss of power
Last week my cherokee wouldn't start. Thought it was water in fuel. Put in a canister of cleaner (not water absorbant). Cherokee started right up with no apparent problems. Today while driving on interstate I lost power totally. Made to side of road, waited about 20 min., she started right up. On the way home ( I live near where orginal stoppage was) it did the same thing. Fortunately was on a secondary road. Waited a few minutes, started up again. Immediately died again after moving about 10 feet. Waited a few more minutes, it started up again and I made it home even after stopping to get some water absorbant for the fuel. Checked fuel lines for pin holes and found nothing. Fuel filter could probably need a change. Question is --- what would cause a complete loss of power with no warnings!!!

There are about a million things that could cause that to happen from a loose wire ,to ignition ,or fuel ,or that little pain in the azz gremlin.Do a tune up change fuel filter, test the gas in tank for water go over emission hose's and so on. But try checking the gut's of your distributor. Also clean your grounds and battery cables. good luck.

So you are telling me that a possible short would cause my cherokee to just lose power without warning and restart a couple of minutes later? I would tend to think it would be more of a fuel problem but I have been wrong before.

loss of power
In regards to my loss of power problem. I have replaced fuel filter, fuel pump is good, no apparent air getting into fuel lines, replaced spark plugs (they came apart when boots pulled off), distributor cap and rotor are fine, coil is fine. Looking more and more like crank position sensor. But---- I am wondering if I get one at local parts store will it be ok? Have read on forum that it is a crap shoot. I need better odds than that. My cherokee is my primary vehicle. Any more suggetions?
