Default Loose steering wheel?

My buddy has a 94 XJ and the steering wheel has a lot of play in it.. He was use to it since he came from a dodge 3500 truck, but I noticed it was pretty bad.

Any common issues for this on a older XJ, could it just need a steering box?
Thanks!

No I have the POS non-tilt Chrysler steering column. I've broken at least 2 of those plastic dash trim things because of it LOL

Yeah his is a tilt column.
I did a quick search on here and didn't find much, other then someone saying it could be a bad U-joint in the steering shaft or a worn steering box..

are you referring to play as in steering wheel wiggles, or steering play

put the front up on jack stands and just start wiggling stuff. or have it parked on the ground with it off, and have a buddy wiggle the wheel while you can check all the linkages and whatnot.

Thanks for the link, I will check it out, and steering wheel play..
You can give it a good 1/8 of a turn either direction before it starts doing anything.

that would be in the steering links or linkage to steering box, steering box or its mounting
