I have a 91 cherokee and my steering has been pretty damn loose. It's only the tilt that is loose, I can move it around in a big circle. I don't know what would be the cause of something big like this. Any help would be much appreciated!!
That happens with the older Saginaw tilt columns. There are some torx support screws partway down that work loose... you can disassemble the column and tighten them, or swap in another. You will need a few special tools to disassemble the column, lock plate tool and pivot pin tool.
Here's a few to get you started:

and when you get it fixed, stop using the steering wheel to pull yourself in the jeep. if it's lifted, pulling yourself in is an easy habit.
