Looking for the roof rack of my dreams
Does anybody make a roof rack that doesn't stand six feet above the roof... and look like it doesn't belong there? Surely someone makes one where the brackets keep it 1/2 to 3/4 inch above the stock rack tracks.
I want a roof rack.....come springtime it'll be more of a need...
But I hate the way the ones I've seen stand up there like the torch on the statue of liberty......any suggestions?
Thanks...Scott

Have you guys looked into Surco? They make racks that mount up pretty close to the roof for reasonable prices. Or do you want it even closer than that. I have one on my Cherokee and love it! http://www.surcoinc.com/

I have a Surco with the gutter mounts, as it is it will clear the factory roof rack bars with room to spare. I plan on taking it apart and trying to get it to sit as close to the roof as possible with out touching.
I may just sell the surco and build some custom deal, I don't know yet.

SURCO safari bolted straight down with Factory Racks removed..Go with the ones that mount to the gutters, They are much stronger. I had to go back and add supports to mine to prevent roof damage..
