Default looking to buy a cherokee

hey all,

I was looking to buy a new vehicle and a came across an ad for '96 Jeep Cherokee. It is the 4.0 straight six with a 5 speed, and has 144 000km(just under 100 000 miles i think).

I am not familiar with these vehicles or offroad modifications in general so I had a few questions. Does the XJ have a solid front and rear axle, as opposed to independant susspension? What kind of compression should you make with a good motor, and whats lowest before you should consider a rebuild? Im looking to make it a daily driver, but also want to lift it a bit, so i was also wondering what my options were to lift a few inches without getting too involved(i only have basic handtools and jackstands) or loosing drivability?

Thanks for reading,
Cameron

Yes they have soild axles. Some people on here have almost 300,000 miles on theres but I will let them chime in. I wanna say off the top of my head that comp should be some where around like 140ish but some one jump in. lol As far as a lift there are to many companys out there. Check out the Lift and Tire thread. Welcome to CF hope this helps any.
