Looking for advice with my build
Hey guys, I have a 99 xj sport aside from a radio its stock. I would like to do all the modifications lift tires, the works. However, I fear that my 4-wheel drive system needs to be replaced before I can get this project off the ground; it makes this grinding noise in 4H and just will not go into 4L. I am looking to take it as high as 6.5 inches if this helps with whatever advice anyone could give on the modifications.

Do you have all four tires the same? Check the transfer case fluid level before you do anything else.
Sometimes the shift lever is a bit tough, you can force it but not till it bends.

Hey Fantic
Thanks for the welcome, all four tires are the same. As for checking the transfer case I'm about due for a Oil change, I'll be sure to ask my mechanic to take a look.

Yo thenning I'm in Abington, where you from? Thanks zr2 I'll have to look into setting time aside to look at that. And yeah I'm between jobs right now, but I'm trying to work out a game plan for this. Does anyone know anything about ARB air lockers or know anyone that has them, I've done a little reseach and from my one off roading adventure can really see the benefits of having them.

I have them both front and rear with OBA. I absolutely love them. They engage, disengage instantly, as fast as you can hit the switch.
They are also stronger than using the stock carrier and a lunchbox locker.
That being said, if I had to buy both new, I probably wouldn't because you're looking at a lot of money. I bought my XJ with the rear one installed, new 4.56 gears for the front in a box and the OBA system new, uninstalled, so I was pretty close. I found a used newer design ARB for the front for $500 and had it installed professionally for another $200. That was more than I wanted, but I really wanted to have both axles selectable.
I am very glad I did, they perform incredibly.
Good luck, do a lot of research and keep asking questions. It will get confusing at times, but keep asking and don't jump into things unless you are sure.
I've wanted to get a winch, but realized that with both F&R locked, I haven't needed it and when I do, there are plenty of guys I wheel with who have them. Someday, yes but right now I want to add sliders and armor.
