Default Looking 4 cheap way to replace leafsprings 89

I have just found out my leafsprings are bad so the garage says so in order to get a sticker i need to have those fixed. Any ideas on what if any other suv has leafs that would work or would say 01 cherokee leafs work. What is the best way to attack this ive got 2 weeks or else imma need a reinspection

I'm pretty sure leafs from any year xj will work only rear suspension parts I know of that are different would be u-bolts that depend on which axle you have for what size u-bolts you would need but you need to replace the u-bolts any ways if replacing rear springs so just get the right ones to fit your axle. What exactly did the find wrong with yours are they broke? If so which leaves? I'm assuming the main leaf is not broke or the axle wouldn't stay in place if it's not the cheapest spring replacement if you want to lift at the same time would be some sort of bastard pack sourced from a junk yard search bastard pack and you will find a ton of info. If the main leaf is broke or you don't want a lift then your pretty much going to have to buy new or used springs may find a full set at a jy or if only one leaf is broke you may could just buy that one replacement(well 2 actually one for each side) I would highly recommend if you only replace one leaf do the same to the other side from the same donor. I'm sure someone else will post on this too and may have more info or knowledge then me. Good luck however you go.

No the main leaf is bad so i would have to find a set of leafs that would bolt right on with no modifacation if they make my car slightly higher but bolt right in

check you local JY. You can even do them yourself if you mechanically good. Start hitting your existing bolts with PB blaster every day to make removal a lil easier if not done so already. Also check NAPA and Advanced Auto. ADvanced usualy has good sales or free shipping so check them out

Yeah this what i came up with about 135 a piece plus ive got the new shackles so i wont need those.

The local spring guy wants to charge me 650 for it all and if the stud snaps off they themselfs cannot repair it plus they couldent get anymore shackles there on back order i guess.

so yeah ill look into what u said the 89 a piece and maybe install them ourselfs. Ill prolly soak the bolts in oil for a couple of days hit em good

any local mechanic or shop will charge more than its suppose to be cause they usually charge either 75 or 125 an hour plus the parts. An.xj is easy to work on even for newbs sometimes

Question

Im not sure if its legit or not but I talked to a guy the other day and he said he used factory Chevy S-10 springs on a 97 xj, they didnt provide a lift of anykind but he said he used them, maybe just hear say but if they would work you could get into them at a junkyard for like 50 bucks for the set... worth looking into....

Yes black thats just what im talking about the kind of awnser i was hoping to see.

S-10 leafs appear to be cheaper if u walk into a jy and say u need cherokee leafs they will prolly try n charge you 100$ each. If you say u need blazer leafs more like 50$ each. so ill look into the s-10 pickup and blazer.

They said oh it will take 4 hours i could do it in 1.5 hours with a lift myself i bet

yes s10 leafs will work and yes they can give you lift. If you have a good set of leafs you can take a main s10 leaf cut the eyes off and boom 1.5-3 inches of lift

sycoglitch i dont really want lift. If i used the s10 leafs the whole leaf will it fit. Remeber the main leaf is bad on both sides so i cant add anything those leafs are junk.

I need 2 new lead springs so from what ur telling me i could just bolt s-10 springs right in with out making my brake line longer etc???

Just about to head out and do my leafs right now.

I bought almost everything from Quadratec.

OEM Leafs & bushings were $94 each. I also bought new shackles (Quad has them for $17 each), U-bolts & nuts, center bolts and shocks. Center bolts & nuts were $50 for 6 (Team Cherokee). Kinda a joke, but I wanted everything new under the rear. The dealer has all the nuts & bolts too. Plus you might be abelt to find them at a local hardware store.

Not sure how much you can spend, but check Quadratec and Team Cherokee.

Well im trying to fix my suspension without spendinga whole lot. Keep in mind when u say 90 something bucks??? isnt there shipping costs involved u dident mention its 40 dollars each leaf usaully for shipping. so if you goto a part store u might see leafs at 130 each now keep in mind the ones online could be only 100$ each leaf add 40$ to each side and u dont save much and u have to wait
