Looking at an 01 tomoroow
I previously owned a 96 looking to get back in the XJ game. It's a craigslist deal, guy says :" 4x4 Also it has new brakes, shocks, new drums, timing belt, water pump, factory remote start/ alarm, kenwood cd/radio ipod ready, new battery also factory rims with TA radial tires, and brand new hitch". He had some big player wheels on it, but is taking off and putting on OEMs with newer rubber. Anything I should be aware of on 01s that would be different then the 96? Also what would pay for one with under 140k? thanks for your input

A cracked head would be I'd say the biggest and he was bs-ing you on the timing belt... xj's don't have one they have a chain. I would look for just regular maintenance things and if it all checks out I'd probably do somewhere around $3000 for it
Good luck I nope it works out for you!!

Well the heads are prone to crack im sure you know. Hopefully its a Chryco 8.25. On a side not see If you can get a pic of the floorboard that would save you trouble and help you settle on a good price. And for 140k on a 01 sounds game to me :P

I'm assuming he meant the serpentine belt, but I will definitely call him out. Judging by comparables in the area I was hoping to get for $2500... Bling not included, haha. Guessing that's why it needed new brakes.

I got him at 2600, the wheels are terrible and one was bent and bounced like a mother. Having him throw the stocks on now, pretty new BFG Radials. Seems pretty good, needs a muffler and o2 from what I see. Picking up in couple hours. He wanted 2500 for the wheels! haha

Saved! I don't think the Transfer case was ever engaged, but it works! Interior is great , just minor northern rust rockers and under. Other then that it's great looking, very happy.

I've never seen a Sport with painted bumpers and trim. They usually come with the plastic that fades.
I like the look though. Nice find!

If you got a late model 2001 your head should be the revised model which is great if not just keep an eye out for a crack between cylinders #3 and 4 you can look straight down the oil cap and if you ever see a line of green (coolant) that is the crack and its time to replace the head. Just keep up on everything and you might just be fine. Nice rig and good luck.

I wish you luck. I bought an 01 that was even the same color. Was the biggest piece of poo i ever had. However I love my 92. Was probably just the one I bought though.
