Locking a Viscous Fan
Hi.....
Is it OK to lock a defective fan, so its permanently operating.....
I've been advised not to do it, as it will put to much strain on it, at high revs.....
Its on a 4l petrol, only used offroad as a toy........
Cheers Jon.......

i would recommend against it as it will not allow your engine to reach operating temp quick enough will slowly kill your engine from cold operation. also it might break your home made lock at high RPM and then you will have problems. just get a new one and cough up the cash

I'd hit up a local u-pull it yard and find a new fan. Just found the high performance one out of a Tarus replacing the OEM. When it is all said and done I'll have about $40 total in the project.

Cheers.....postage will be a problem, as I'm in the Old Country.....
I've locked it by simply drilling 2 bolts thru the unit.......I suppose the ally could fracture thru high revs now I've weakened it....
Best be looking for a 2nd hand one then......
Will 2nd hand ones be any good, as I read somewhere, they only have a 5/6 year life span......

Did not know they had a dual fan setup. Any info on the swap for the dual? I have a 30 days on this fan and could swap at any time, just would feel better having some info If I decide to go that route. Thanks in advance.
