Default Lock auto into 1st

Has anyone wired a switch into there XJ to lock it into 1st gear

In my opionion that is the only downfall to the truck, when you pull the selector right back and it changes into second when you dont want it to

Why do you want to lock it in first?

So it doesnt change up when I go down steep hills n when I need it to stay in the power.
Last 2 times I took it out I couldnt get up a couple of hills or through a long bog cause it changed up and ran out of power

what year is yours?

my '99 will do it, but not if you go straight down.

from P go to D, pop it up to N then straight down into 1-2.

have done that many times, if you want it to switch to 2 as well, pop it into 3 then back to 1-2.

but there is a switch you can wire up to lock it in any gear. same for the tq converter as well.
